There are some reasons why your retainer may not fit, including:
- Not wearing a retainer as prescribed
- Warped by heat damage
- Damaged
These are all issues that can be avoided by proper care and maintenance of your retainer.
But, what if my retainer has become loose?
If the lingual retainer is becoming loose, use wax to keep it in place and prevent the wire from irritating your tongue.
However, if this becomes too uncomfortable, please use a clean pair of nail clippers to clip off that piece of wire that is sticking out or irritating your tongue.
In this situation, please use your temporary overlay retainer if you have clipped a wire to prevent your teeth from moving.
